Recalled Dishwasher Caused House Fire

(WZTV) — Over 500,000 dishwashers have now been recalled due to fire hazard according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Previously, 149,000 affected dishwashers were recalled in 2015 but another 408,000 have now been added to the expanded recall. There have been five reports of power cords overheating and causing fires that resulted in property damage.

The affected models fall under the Bosch, Gaggenau, Jenn-Air, and Thermador brands. To see if your model and serial number match those affected, check the information printed inside the dishwasher, either on top of the appliance, on the inner door panel, or on the side

All makes and models were sold nationwide from January 2013 through May 2015. Those with the affected models should call BSH Home Appliances at 888-965-5813.

663,000 Models

Affected Brands Include Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, and Jenn-Air

The manufacturer of Bosch and other dishwasher brands today recalled 469,000 dishwashers because the power cord can overheat and catch fire. The recall is an expansion of a two-year-old recall that included 194,000 Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, and Jenn-Air dishwashers for a total of 663,000 models in the U.S. and Canada.

Over the past two years, BSH Home Appliances, which announced the recall with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has received five reports of the power cords overheating and causing fires that resulted in property damage.

In the 2015 recall, BSH reported 10 incidents of power cords overheating, including five reports of fires that caused property damage. BSH said that the overheating occurred when the dishwashers were in use, not when they were sitting idle.

No injuries have been reported.
